Mahipal Lomror hails from the small town of Nagaur in Rajasthan. His journey started from a humble background as his father is a clerk in a government organization. The facilities at his native place are anything but inspiring, and budding cricketers have to make do with sub-standard facilities.

Lomror has never been held back by the lack of support and has made his way into the upper echelons of the Cricketing circuit. Chandrakant Pandit, former Indian cricketer and Mumbai coach gave him the name ‘Junior Chris Gayle’.

Domestic Career

For a 16-year-old cricketer to feature in the Under-19 at a stage such as the World Cup is no mean feat in itself. But, Mahipal Lomror seemed to enjoy the big stage and was one of India’s best performers in the tournament, despite being the second-youngest player in the Indian squad.

Lomror was, by far, the best Indian all-rounder as he put in consistent performances with both bat and ball. In the five innings that he batted, Lomror scored 133 runs at an average of 33.25 and a strike rate of 100.75. The young talent from Rajasthan also picked up 7 wickets in 6 matches at an impressive average of 18.85 and an economy rate of 3.75.

In the match against New Zealand U-19, the southpaw scored 45 and finished with bowling figures of 5/47. He was the only Indian bowler to achieve a five-wicket haul in the tournament. Lomror’s 21-ball 41 in the quarterfinal against Namibia U-19 helped India post a huge total of 349 in 50 overs.

He made his first-class debut for Rajasthan in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy on 6 October 2016 after playing the World cup. He made his Twenty20 debut for Rajasthan in the 2016–17 Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament on 30 January 2017. He made his List A debut for Rajasthan in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 25 February 2017.

Perhaps his best performance came in 2017–18 Ranji Trophy where he was the joint-leading wicket-taker for Rajasthan with 13 dismissals in six matches. In August 2019, he was named in the India Red team’s squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy.

Two months after his exploit in the U19 World Cup, Delhi Daredevils snaffled Lomror for ₹10 lakh in the 2016 IPL auction. He was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals at the 2018 auctions and also featured in a couple of games that season without really getting ample scope to showcase either of his skills. While he featured only in only two games in IPL 2019, Rajasthan Royals retained the youngster for the IPL 2020.
