Vismaya was a final year Ayurveda student in a college in Pandalam. Vismaya, 24, was found hanging inside the bathroom on Monday morning. The police have accessed WhatsApp chats between Vismaya and one of her relatives that suggest she was being subjected to brutal violence.
Vismaya, a student of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, got married to Kiran who is a native of Kollam district and works as an Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector at Motor Vehicles Department. The marriage took place last year.

The 24-year-old Vismaya was found dead inside her house at Sasthamcotta in Kerala’s Kollam district on Monday morning. The woman’s family has alleged that she was being tortured by the husband over dowry.
From the very beginning, there were some issues between the couple. Vismaya’s family has alleged that she was assaulted and threatened over dowry issues.
She even returned to her home once but later went to live with her husband and his parents after completing the BAMS course. Upon returning, Kiran allegedly continued to assault and insult her.
On early Monday morning, Vismaya was found hanging inside the bathroom.
Sooranad police probing the death have recorded statements from the husband’s relatives and are awaiting an autopsy report. Kirankumar is currently absconding.
Meanwhile, the Women’s Commission member Shahida Kamal has said the Commission has taken a suo-moto case and asked for a report from Kollam Rural SP on the matter.

Days before her death, Vismaya had told one of her relatives that she was being subjected to brutal violence. The WhatsApp chats between the two, now accessed by the police, reveal that the husband would thrash her usually after coming home, would kick her in the face and when she fell down, he used to press his leg onto her face. Vismaya also said in the chats that her husband hurled abuse at her and her father, saying the vehicle he received in dowry was not good.
Her family has released screenshots of her WhatsApp chat in which she talks about the torture. She also sent voice messages and pictures of cuts and bruises she sustained in the assaults.
As per the request of her family, the body has been sent to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for post mortem.

Thrivikraman Nair, Vismaya’s father, has raised a murder allegation against Kirankumar, saying he demanded money instead of the car given as dowry.
