Veteran journalist Vinod Dua, who was admitted to Apollo Hospital’s intensive care unit, has died, his daughter and actor-comic Mallika Dua said on Saturday. He was 67.

The last rites of the well-known journalist, who was hospitalized with COVID-19 earlier this year and lost his wife, radiologist Padmavati ‘Chinna’ Dua, to the virus in June, will be performed at the Lodhi crematorium here on Sunday, she said.

“Our irreverent, fearless and extraordinary father, Vinod Dua has passed away. He lived an inimitable life, rising from the refugee colonies of Delhi to the peak of journalistic excellence for over 42 years, always, always speaking truth to power.

“He is now with our mom, his beloved wife Chinna in heaven where they will continue to sing, cook, travel, and drive each other up the wall,” Mallika Dua wrote on her Instagram Stories.

Vinod Dua, a Hindi broadcast journalism pioneer with stints in Doordarshan and NDTV, was moved to the ICU of Apollo Hospital on Monday.

Vinod Dua and his wife were in a hospital in Gurgaon when the second COVID-19 wave was at its peak. The journalist’s health had suffered ever since and he had been in and out of hospitals.

The couple is also parents to elder daughter Bakul Dua, a clinical psychologist.

December 4th, 2021 is the day when Mallika Dua announced the death of her father Vinod Dua on Instagram. Vinod Dua left the world at the age of 67 years after suffering a lot because of his health issues.

He was battling in the ICU for more than 10 days and had contracted COVID-19 earlier this year due to which he was first hospitalized. 

He was hospitalized in a Delhi hospital. Mallika also informed her followers about the cremation details, it is going to take place in Delhi only at the Lodhi crematorium.

Vinod Dua began his life in Delhi by living in refugee colonies as his parents moved to Delhi post-India’s Independence. Until the mid-1980s he was a theatre enthusiast and has been a part of his school and college singing and debate competitions.

He got graduated from Hans Raj College, he is a literature graduate. In the year 1974 during the month of November Dua was first seen on television because of Yuva Manch. Yuva Manch was an exclusive program run and owned by Doordarshan.

Mallika Dua who is a comedian was his daughter while Padmavati Dua who was a radiologist was his wife.

Until 1996 Dua was working with ZeeTv. In 2000 he started working for Sahara TV and worked until 2003 for their show Pratidin. Later he joined the NDTV group as the anchor of a popular food show named Zaika India ka. This show helped Dua is attained maximum popularity.

Vinod Dua like all journalists has been many times pin-pointed by people that have led to major controversies. One such big controversy took place in the year 2017 when Akshay Kumar who is a Bollywood actor passed the vulgar remark to Mallika Dua during a laughter show.

Vinod was quite upset with Akshay’s remark and he bashed him badly later one.

Vinod Dua Career

Initially, during his college days, he was a fantastic singer as well as a debater. Additionally, he was involved in the activities concerning the theater during 1980. As a matter of fact, he is the author of two great children’s plays which were later performed in the Sutradhar Puppet Theater.

In the beginning of his career, he got a chance to host the show – Yuva Manch which was cast on the Doordarshan channel. Later, many such youth programs piled up such as Yuv Jan and Jawan Tarang. Most prominently, he continued to host such youth programs until the year 1980.  

In the year 1984, he got a major career turning point when he got a chance to host the election analyst program along with Dr. Prannoy Roy which was in turn cast on Doordarshan.

The other hosts in which he appeared as the host are Tasveer – e – Hind, Chunav Chunauti, Election Analysis, Pratidin & Parakh, Kaun Banega Mukhyamantri, Zayka India Ka, Jan Ki Baat, and much more.
