Tom Ford Career
Before he entered his last year in New School, Ford went to Paris and worked as an intern in Chloé’s press office which started his interest in fashion. After graduation he started working as a Design Assistant for the American Designer Cathy Hardwick and then he moved to Perry Ellis. Ford was later hired as Gucci’s Chief Women’s ready-to-wear Designer by Dawn Mello, the company’s Creative Director. His role expanded and he started designing menswear and shoes. In 1992, he took over the role of Design Director and headed the brand’s ready-to-wear, fragrances, image, advertising and store design. He was later promoted to Creative Director of Gucci. After Gucci acquired Yves Saint Laurent, Ford became he Creative Director to that label too. In April 2004, Ford parted ways with the group.
Ford launched his own label name after him in 2006. He launched a line of menswear, beauty, eyewear and accessories. He has dressed First Lady Michelle Obama, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Daniel Craig, Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp, Ryan Gosling, Will Smith, Julianne Moore, Hugh Jackman, Jon Hamm, and Henry Cavill. He also designed the suits for Daniel Craig for his final four James Bond movies.
