Siraj Throws Ball At Defenseless Temba Bavuma

One of the great things that this Indian team has is the aggressive way they approach things. The attacking intent that all the players in the squad have, has helped the Indian team reach on top of test cricket. However, in some incidents, over-excited aggression can be a bad thing.

Mohammad Siraj has been one of the finds of 2021 for India. He has added firepower to India’s already strong fast bowling unit. He is an interesting person in the field. Siraj gets excited too often, which also helps him in his bowling.

On day five of the first Test at Centurion, Siraj was bowling a fiery spell and Temba Bavuma was facing him. On one of the deliveries, Bavuma pushed the ball towards Siraj, who was in his follow-through.

Siraj picked the ball from one hand and instantly threw it towards Bavuma. The ball hit Bavuma on the foot and he began jumping in pain. Even though Siraj apologized instantly, but that didn’t help Bavuma ease the pain.

The South African vice-captain had to call the physio and the match had to be halted for a few minutes.

Temba Bavuma Biography, Wiki

Temba Bavuma was born and raised in Langa. He was born in the same street where the cricketers like Thami Tsolekile and Malusi Siboto were born and used to play street cricket with them.

At the age of 18, he made his first-class debut playing for Gauteng. After years and years of hard work, he finally made it to the South African squad when West Indies toured South Africa in 2014.

He could only manage a score of 10 and 15 in both the innings of his Test debut. However, his domestic performances made sure that he get more opportunities. He is arguably one of the most eye-catching batsmen of the modern era.

With a short height, he does have some limitations but possesses a solid defense which has made him a great prospect for South Africa in Tests.

He has been a regular feature for South Africa in Tests but his numbers aren’t that great. He has just 1 century under his belt in 40 tests but with the kind of game reading that he has, he was made the vice-captain of the South African test team in 2019.

He was also included in South Africa’s T20I squad when South Africa toured India in October 2019. He made a decent 49 in his debut test but made sure he see his side home in the final T20 and South Africa finally managed to level the T20I series.

During Mzansi Super League 2019, he was made the captain of the Jozi Stars team and this will be his first stint as a captain of any side.

Temba Bavuma Career

Bavuma began his career in 2008 in Gauteng against Eastern Province. He made his franchise debut for the Highveld Lions, based in Johannesburg, in the 2010/11 season.

Consistent performances over the course of a few seasons, and vacancies caused by the retirements of Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis, and persistent injuries to AB de Villiers ensured he got a much-deserved Test call-up.

Bavuma made his Test debut for South Africa, West Indies on Boxing Day in 2014. In the New Year’s Test at Cape Town in 2016, he became the first black cricketer to make a Test century for the country. This was an unbeaten score of 102 in the 2nd Test of the series against England.

He made his ODI debut for South Africa against Ireland on 25 September 2016 and scored his maiden ODI century.

It was his performances at the Supersport season matches that helped him to rise as a prominent star in cricket.

In 2011-12, during his second season at Supersport seasons, he made 637 runs at an average of 53.08 which placed him in 11th in the top run-scorers.

In 2012/13, he was the 5th highest scorer in the now renamed Sunfoil Series, but at a poorer average of 31.58. In 2013/14, he again scored heavily making 714 runs at an average of 39.66, seeing him place 6th on the Sunfoil Series scorers list.

Inconsistency in the 2017 tour of England meant that Bavuma had to give up his spot in the middle order to the returning AB de Villiers, and he hasn’t been able to wrest that spot back again, especially with South Africa deciding to play only five specialist batsmen along with a wicketkeeper and two all-rounders.

On the domestic level, he presently plays for Cape Cobras, based in Cape Town, after having started with the Lions, in Johannesburg.
