Who is Sarah Millican?

Sarah Millican (born 29 May 1975) is an English comedian. Millican won the comedy award for Best Newcomer at the 2008 Edinburgh Festival Fringe

In February 2013 she was listed as one of the 100 most powerful women in the United Kingdom by Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, and in the same year she married fellow comedian Gary Delaney.

Her first book, How to Be Champion, was published in 2017. Millican has performed on various tours, mainly across the United Kingdom, over the years.

The British-born Comedienne sprouted from the loins of Philip D. King and Valerie Prince. Her place of birth was in South Shields, Tyne, and Wear, England. And, she was born on the 29th of May, 1975.

Sarah Jane Millican had her education at Mortimer Comprehensive School which is now known as Mortimer Community College. After her graduation, she took up a job as a civil servant but would later abandon the job in order to pursue a career in comedy.

While recovering from the disappointing breakup of her 7 years marriage to her first husband, she dug through the mess with humor. Kicking off her career in 2005, she wasted no time in establishing herself in the industry. Her fame touched the skies in the years that followed.

Sarah Millican released a good number of her works on DVDs from 2011 to 2016 and they were well received. Her Sarah Millican Television Programme made it to the BBC 2 station in 2012.

Sarah Millican Career

Millican began her career in the entertainment industry in 2005, making her debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe show with her show “Not Nice.” The act was inspired by her divorce. In 2008, she won the if. comedy award for Best Newcomer. Her second Edinburgh show was in the spring of 2009 and it attracted positive reviews.

Chatterbox was Millican’s third show in 2010 and it was hosted by the Stand Comedy Club during Fringe. The show was nominated for the main Edinburgh Comedy Award, but she lost to Russell Kane.

Soon, she joined panelists of several shows such as Would I Lie to You?, Have I Got News for You, 8 Out of 10 Cats, You Have Been Watching, Mock the Week, QI and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Millican has been a contestant several times on the game show 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

In June 2009, it was featured in Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Manchester edition. In March 2010, she appeared on The Bubble, a David Mitchel panel show, and has been a guest on six episodes of Frank Skinner’s Opinionated.

On 8 March 2012, Millican had her stand-up show, The Sarah Millican Television Programme, debut on BBC Two. A second series of the show began airing on 15th January 2013. The show led to her nomination for BAFTA Entertainment Performance awards in both 2013 and 2014. She won £20,000 for charity in a celebrity episode of Deal or No Deal that was broadcast on 29 April 2012.

She founded a women’s online magazine in September 2014, Standard Issue and it had led to a podcast in early 2016. In May 2015 an announcement was made that Millican would become the eighth “curator” of The Museum of Curiosity, co-presenting the eighth series of the BBC Radio 4 comedy series.

In October 2017, her autobiography, How to be Champion, was published. Dates were later announced for her 2018 UK tour, Control Enthusiast, which was later extended into Oceania and Canada.

In 2019, Millican began presenting the comedy panel show Elephant in the Room for Radio 4. The show focuses on the panelists being asked about various life experiences and testing who is closest and farthest from the national average, and Millican has said that she wishes to defy typical panel show gender ratios on the show by having “three champion women and one smashing male”.
