Sajid Javid Biography, Wiki

Sajid Javid was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, one of five sons of Pakistani immigrant parents. Javid’s family were farmers from the village of Rajana near Toba Tek Singh, Punjab, from where they migrated to the UK in the 1960s. Sajid Javid’s father worked as a bus driver. His mother did not speak English until she had been in the UK for ten years. His family moved from Lancashire to Stapleton Road, Bristol, as his parents took over a shop there, and the family lived in a two-bedroom flat above it. Javid is able to hold a conversation in broken Punjabi.

As a teenager, Javid developed an interest in financial markets, following the Thatcher government’s privatisations. He says that, at the age of fourteen, he borrowed £500 from a bank to invest in shares and became a regular reader of the Financial Times.

Sajid Javid was a trustee of the London Early Years Foundation, a governor of Normand Croft Community School, and has led an expedition to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the highest mountain in Africa, to show his support of Help the Aged.

He replaced Matt Hancock as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care on 26 June, after Hancock’s resignation on humiliation he faced after a photo of him with Gina Colangelo went viral, and it was speculated that he is having an affair with her.

Sajid Javid The New Health Minister Of UK

British former finance minister Sajid Javid replaced Matt Hancock as the country’s health minister, Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s office said on Saturday.

Javid resigned as Finance Minister last year after he refused to fire his political advisers as demanded by Johnson.

Matt Hancock quit on Saturday after he was caught breaking COVID-19 rules by kissing and embracing an aide in his office, enraging colleagues and the public who have been living under lockdown.

Sajid Javid will be tasked with helping the state-run health service recover from the pandemic and to deal with any future infection waves. Cases have started to rise in the last month.

Sajid Javid Appointed As Health Minister

Sajid Javid Wife and Family

Javid married his childhood sweetheart Laura King in 1997, whom he met while sharing a stapler at the local Commercial Union branch during a summer job. Javid has four children with his wife Laura — a church-going Christian. The couple had their honeymoon in Israel. Javid’s children are privately educated, something that Javid attributed to their desire to “do what’s best for them”.

Sajid Javid was raised in a two-bed flat above a shop in Bristol with four brothers. His brother Chief Superintendent Bas Javid was Commander of Solihull Police division, and later promoted as Commander at Scotland Yard, in charge of front-line policing. Bas Javid had previously been with the Royal Navy and his military service included the Gulf War — for which he received a commendation for teamwork and bravery.

Sajid Javid Brothers

Sajid Javid’s eldest brother Tariq, died in July 2018 in “an unnatural death” and a full inquest was held in which the coroner ruled Tariq had intentionally killed himself after drinking alcohol and taking codeine at the luxury South Lodge Hotel, which was near his home in Horsham. In a letter left to Sylvia — his partner of 15 years — Tariq suggested he would not “last long” due to ill health. Tariq was a successful businessman and managed a supermarket chain.

His other siblings are Khalid, a financial advisor, and Atif, a multi-millionaire property tycoon. Before he became an MP, Sajid was briefly a director of Atif’s main investment vehicle, SA Capital.

Sajid Javid Religion

Sajid Javid is said to have received religious hate mail in the form of a “Punish a Muslim day” parcel; as of March 2018, he was the fifth British MP to receive such abuse. However, while his family’s heritage is Muslim, Javid himself is not religious and drinks alcohol (which is forbidden in Islam), whereas his wife is a practising Christian. Addressing a church-hosted husting in his inaugural election campaign for Bromsgrove on 22 April 2010, Javid told the audience:

My own family’s heritage is Muslim. Myself and my four brothers were brought up to believe in God, but I do not practise any religion. My wife is a practising Christian and the only religion practised in my house is Christianity.

Why did Sajid Javid Resigned As Chancellor?

When the Prime Minister’s Chief Adviser Dominic Cummings relieved one of Chancellor Javid’s aides, Sonia Khan, of her employment, without Javid’s permission and without informing him.

Javid “voiced anger” to Johnson over the dismissal of Khan and Cummings faced the prospect of a probe by a governmental ethics watchdog following the dismissal.

On 13 February 2020, Javid resigned as Chancellor of the Exchequer, following a meeting with the Prime Minister. During the meeting, Johnson had offered to keep his position on the condition that he fires all of his advisers at the Treasury, to be replaced with individuals selected by 10 Downing Street. Upon resigning, Javid told the Press Association that “no self-respecting minister would accept those terms”.

Sajid Javid Honours

In 2014 he was appointment to the Privy Council of the United Kingdom, entitling him to the Honorific “The Right Honourable” for Life.
