Sue Gray ‘leaked report’ tweet from Joe Lycett sparks ‘panic’ in Downing Street

Comedian Joe Lycett has apparently sparked panic in the halls of Parliament after tweeting what at first glance was part of the yet-to-be-published Sue Gray report into parties in Downing Street.

The comedian shared what he said was the summary of the main findings of the report in a tweet which has quickly been retweeted 6,000 times and liked more than 45,000 times.

The tweet included an image that appeared to be a formal Cabinet Office document – with the letterhead – and was titled ‘A summary of my main findings.

Joe said he was contacted by someone who works in Parliament, who wrote: “I work in Parliament for the Conservatives and I think u need to know.

“Your tweet this morning was read as an actual serious leak from Sue Gray’s report.

“U had MP staff literally running around panicking from what it said.

“Panic dialling MPs like we need to discuss this right now.

Joe’s initial tweet read: “BREAKING: Leaked Sue Gray report reveals shocking abuse of the rules. Hard to see how the PM can cling on after this.”

The one-page document he shared has seven points – point 1 reading: “A culture of Covid-19 regulation rule-breaking at Number 10 Downing Street.”

But the document quickly revealed its true nature as a prank as point two said games played at the parties included ‘Pass the A*******’.

The document says WhatsApp groups named ‘Definitely A Meeting’ and ‘Down It Street’ were created to discuss parties while all cabinet ministers had to dance on a table to Pure and Simple by HearSay.
