Edmund Gerald Brown Jr. (born April 7, 1938) is an American lawyer, author, and politician who served as the 34th and 39th governor of California from 1975 to 1983 and 2011 to 2019.

A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected Secretary of State of California in the early 1970s; Brown later served as Mayor of Oakland from 1999 to 2007 and Attorney General of California from 2007 to 2011.

He was both the oldest and sixth-youngest governor of California due to the 28-year gap between his second and third terms. Upon completing his fourth term in office, Brown became the third longest-serving governor in U.S. history, serving 16 years and 5 days in office.

Jerry Brown was born on April 7, 1938, in San Francisco, California USA. He was an American Democratic politician and also the Governor of California from 1975 to 1983.

He stayed in the position of Mayor of Oakland, California from 1999 to 2007 and a California Attorney General from 2007 to 2011. His full name was Edmund G. Brown Jr.

In 1956, he attended his college at Santa Clara University where he has done a great job at the University. In every subject, he scored very good marks. Later on, when he finished University, he transferred to Sacred Heart Protestant Jesuit Seminary.

And took the path of the president in 1958. However, he left the Seminary in 1960 so that he focused on the work. He entered the University of California, Berkeley where he majored in Classics BA in 1961.

Brown was elected Trustee for the Los Angeles Community College District in 1969, California Secretary of State in 1970, and Governor of California in 1974 and 1978. After his governorship, Brown lectured and traveled widely, practiced law, served as chairman of the state Democratic Party and ran for president.

Jerry Brown Career

Before getting his law degree from Yale University in 1964, he spent his time abroad. At that time, he worked in the California Supreme Court of Justice Matthew Tobriner where he was learning and growing in his field. In the late 1960s, Brown lived in Los Angeles and worked at the Tuttle and Taylor law firm.

He was elected to the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees in 1969 and the following year was elected Secretary of State for California. During his four-year term, he drafted and lobbied for the California Fair Political Practice Act which was passed in 1974.

In the same year, he was elected as a governor of California where he was succeeding in Ronald Reagan.

In his career, he has done many great jobs some are exceptional, some are inspirational, some are motivational. Even sometimes, many were shocked about he can do much work at the same time.

They were married on June 18, 2005, in a ceremony officiated by Senator Dianne Feinstein in the Rotunda Building in downtown Oakland.

They had a second, religious ceremony later in the day in the Roman Catholic Church in San Francisco where Brown’s parents had been married. Brown and Gust lived in the Oakland Hills in a home purchased for $1.8 million. As of 2019, they live on a ranch in Colusa County.
