Jalen Brunson Career
Brunson was selected with the 33rd overall pick by the Dallas Mavericks on June 21, 2018. He was the fourth and final Villanova player chosen in the 2018 NBA Draft. Brunson did not sign until after completing his 2018 NBA Summer League play, and he was given a four-year contract with three years guaranteed, similar to that of a first-round pick.
On October 17, 2018, he made his NBA debut, recording 3 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist in a 100–121 loss to the Phoenix Suns. Brunson started in place of the injured Dennis Smith Jr.
On October 26 against the Toronto Raptors, scoring 8 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds after coming off the bench in his first four NBA games.
He set a career high with 11 points against the Utah Jazz on November 8. Brunson took Smith’s place in the starting lineup and set career highs with 14 points against the Houston Rockets on December 8 and 17 points against the Orlando Magic on December 10.
