Hari Krishna Dwivedi is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1988-batch of West Bengal cadre. Hari Krishna Dwivedi earlier held the post of additional chief secretary, home and hill affairs in the West Bengal government. BP Gopalika, a 1989-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, has been appointed the state’s home secretary.
In addition to home and hill affairs, Dwivedi also held the charge of the departments of parliamentary affairs, planning and statistics and programme monitoring. He was earlier the state’s additional chief secretary in the finance ministry.
Hari Krishna Dwivedi has been a member of the board of West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd since 2012.

Hari Krishna Dwivedi has been appointed as the new Bengal chief secretary. The current chief secretary, Alapan Bandyopadhyay, will now serve as chief advisor to Mamata Banerjee.
Amid the ongoing tussle over the extension of Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay’s tenure, the Centre on Monday appointed 1988 IAS batch officer Hari Krishna Dwivedi as the new chief secretary to Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. Hari Krishna Dwivedi is currently serving as the home secretary of the state. Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee has appointed Alapan Bandyopadhyay as new chief advisor to the chief minister.
CM Mamata Banerjee has announced that Alapan Bandyopadhyay will now serve as chief advisor to the CM from Tuesday.
“He [Alapan Bandyopadhyay] will join as the chief advisor to the CM from tomorrow. We want his services for the pandemic. Everybody knows how he worked and that’s why we are safe today. He must continue his service to Bengal and the country,” Mamata Banerjee said.

What led to Hari Krishna Dwivedi’s Appointment?
The Centre on May 28 issued a letter to Alapan Bandopadhyay asking him to report to the Union home ministry in New Delhi on May 31 (Monday).
This prompted Mamata Banerjee to send a letter to PM Narendra Modi seeking rescinding of the order. The Centre apparently did not respond, following which Alapand Bandopadhyay decided to retire from active service.
Addressing a press conference in Kolkata on Monday, Mamata Banerjee said, “We want his service for the pandemic. Everybody knows how he [Bandopadhyay] worked and that is why we are safe today.”
Alapan Bandopadhyay is now the special advisor to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
