Ruturaj Gaikwad is an Indian cricketer. He was born on born 31 January 1997. He made his first-class debut for Maharashtra in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy on 6 October 2016. He made his Twenty20 debut for Maharashtra in the 2016–17 Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament on 2 February 2017. He made his List A debut for Maharashtra in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 25 February 2017.
On 2 October 2021, Gaikwad scored his first century in the IPL, with 101 not out against the Rajasthan Royals in the 2021 tournament.
Ruturaj Gaikwad becomes the youngest Orange Cap holder
Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad became the youngest player in the history of the Indian Premier League to win the Orange Cup during the IPL 2021 final against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday. Ruturaj needed only 24 more runs to surpass KL Rahul to claim the Organe Cap for the season before the final.
Ruturaj got past Rahul’s tally in the powerplay of the IPL 2021 final after Eoin Morgan won the toss and sent Chennai Super Kings into bat. Ruturaj was once again impressive, as he took on the KKR bowling attack in the first 6 overs. Notably, only once in the history of the IPL (Robin Uthappa with KKR in 2014) had gone on to win the IPL title after winning the Orange Cap.
Ruturaj Gaikwad finished with 635 runs in IPL 2021 – the youngest to win the Orange in the history of the IPL.
Notably, Ruturaj’s senior opening partner Faf du Plessis nearly snatched the Orange Cap away from him as the South African star hit a 59-ball 85 in the IPL 2021 final. He finished with 633 runs, just 2 short of Ruturaj’s tally.
Since the IPL 2021 season resumed on September 19, Gaikwad has scored 88*, 38, 40, 45 and 101*. The batsman endured a dip in form in the next two games, scoring 12 and 13 runs respectively. In 2018-19, Ruturaj’s domestic cricketing journey was very good, and seeing this domestic cricket performance, Ruturaj was bought by Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2019 for his base price of Rs 20 lakhs.
