Who was Indira Hridayesh?

Indira Hridayesh born on 7 April 1941 was an Indian National Congress leader, MLA as well as Leader of Opposition in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in India. She was elected from Haldwani constituency in the 2012 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly election.

She was minister of Finance in Uttarakhand 2012 to 2017, Parliamentary Affairs, Higher Education, and Planning in Government of Uttarakhand under Harish Rawat. Indira Hridyesh died on 13 June IST 11:35:00 at Uttrakhand Bhavan in Delhi due to cardiac arrest.

Congress’s Indira Hridayesh dies of cardiac arrest at Uttarakhand Sadan in Delhi.

Indira Hridayesh, the Leader of Opposition in the Uttarakhand Assembly and Haldwani MLA, passed away due to cardiac arrest at Uttarakhand Sadan in Delhi on Sunday.

Congress state in-charge Devender Yadav said Indira Hridayesh was at Uttarakhand Sadan for a meeting. “She passed away after suffering a heart attack,” he said.

Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat condoled Indira Hridayesh’s death in New Delhi on Sunday, saying she played a significant role in the politics of both Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand for four decades.

Describing her death as a big loss for the state, Rawat remembered the Congress leader for her profound knowledge of parliamentary procedures.

Tirath Singh Rawat said it was also a personal loss for him as he always got the love of an elder sister from her.

State government’s spokesman and cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal said he and other politicians of his generation had learnt a lot from Hridayesh who could rise above the confines of party-based politics.

“Her knowledge of parliamentary procedures was amazing. We learnt a lot from her,” Uniyal said.
