Atanu Das born on 5 April 1992, is an Indian archer. He represents India in the Recurve Men’s Individual and Team events. He made his international debut in 2008. His current world ranking is 9 as of 22 July 2021.

Atanu Das has won a bronze medal, with Deepika Kumari, in the 2013 World Cup Mixed Team event organized in Colombia. Atanu is currently employed in Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Kolkata.

Atanu is a promising Indian talent, who started archery at the age of 14 under the coaching of Mithu Da. In 2008, Atanu moved to Tata Archery Academy where he was trained under the Korean coach Lim Chae Wong. Recently he was being filmed by world archery for its documentary about archery.

Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das beat Sjef van den Berg and Gabriela Schloesser of Netherlands and fetch India a third gold medal from the competition.

In the Men’s team event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Atanu Das was a member of Team India, which got knocked out by Team South Korea in the quarter finals. However, in the Men’s individual event, he managed to reach the Round of 8 after upsetting 3rd seed Oh Jin-hyek in the Round of 16.

Archer Atanu Das Beats 2012 Champion, Enters Pre-Quarterfinals

Indian archer Atanu Das shocked South Korea’s Oh Jin Hyek in a nail-biting finish to make it to the 1/8 Elimination round in the men’s individual archery event at the Yumenoshima Ranking Field on Thursday. The third-seed Korean started the match with a decent 8-9-9 and Das replied with 8-8-9, giving Jin Hyek two points in the first set. Das came strongly in the second set with three 9s, Oh missed the chance to take the two points after hitting an 8 in the last arrow.

The third set also had the same output with both archers sharing the points. Jin Hyek 8-10-9 and Indian aimed 9-9-9. With his back against the wall, Atanu responded brilliantly and took the fourth set 8-9-10 and the Korean replied with 9-7-6 to force a decider.

The fifth set tested the nerves of both archers as they both again shared the points and progressed into shoot-off.

Aiming first in the shoot-off, Jinhyek shot a 9 to which Atanu replied with a brilliant 10 and sealed the match. With this win, he has cruised into the 1/8 Eliminations round.

Earlier in the day, Atanu defeated Chinese Taipei’s Yu-Cheng Dang in the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics 6-4 in the 1/32 Elimination round.

Atanu Das was born on 5 April 1992. He did his schooling from Baranagar Narendranath Vidyamandir, Baranagar.

He is employed with Bharat Petroleum Sports Promotion Board. Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari tied their knot on 30 June 2020 in Ranchi.
