Bengali actor Abhishek Chatterjee on Thursday passed away at the age of 57. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid tribute to the veteran actor on Twitter.
The CM wrote, “Sad to know of the untimely demise of our young actor Abhishek Chatterjee. Abhishek was talented and versatile in his performances, and we shall miss him. It is a great loss for TV serials and our film industry. My condolences to his family and friends”.
Chatterjee made his debut with the Bengali film Pathbhola (1986), directed by Tarun Majumdar. He was seen alongside veterans such as Utpal Dutt, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Sandhya Roy, and Tapas Paul.

In his 36 years long career, Abhishek had worked in several films and shows. His sudden death at the age of 57 has left the Bengali film industry heartbroken. His love for cinema could be understood by the fact that he was shooting for his upcoming show when he breathed last. It is reported that he had suffered a heart attack.
According to an e report in ETimes, Abhishek was unwell and was still shooting for an upcoming TV show, Ismart Jodi on March 23 when his condition deteriorated. He threw up on the sets while shooting for the show, and the crew members helped him.
However, in spite of going to a hospital, he rushed back home, where his family called a doctor. Abhishek was given treatment, but late at night, he breathed his last.
